Dramatic moments at anganwadi workers' protest

Last Updated 22 March 2017, 21:08 IST

The protest by anganwadi workers continued on Wednesday with dramatic moments as nine of the agitating workers suffered health problems.

Eight protesters were rushed to KC General Hospital at Malleswaram. The police had a hard time convincing a worker to go to the hospital. Kavita, a 28-year-old anganwadi worker from Shiraguppa, Ballari, was carried by the police for treatment. The doctors at the hospital said the nine agitators were treated as outpatients.

Several philanthropists and NGOs brought food, fruits and water for the protesters who rejected them stating that they do not want to be dependent on anyone.

Food packets returned
“We have not come here to beg. If you want to help us, sit with us on dharna. Please do not distribute food here. We don't need food. Protesters should not receive such help,”  they said. Those who received food packets returned them and continued the protest.

More than 5,000 workers continued the protest seeking hike in their remuneration. Officials had placed several make-shift toilets after realising that the amenities were not enough for the huge number of protesters.
