Chief Justice J S Khehar on Thursday said the apex court is likely to do away within seven months the practice of filing bulky case flies. Records will reach the apex court electronically.

“We want to stop this practice of filing all documents and orders of the lower courts,” the CJI said. “We should be able to have a system in six-seven months where we will electronically collect trial court and high court records and there will be no need of case records being filed afresh in this court,” he said. The court said that instead of placing bulky paper books, lawyers would be required to file their petitions electronically.

The CJI’s observation came while hearing a plea by senior advocate Indira Jaising for setting up a larger bench to frame guidelines to designate lawyers as senior advocates.
