Model Assembly debates city's woes

Volunteers and students donned the roles of MLAs, Speaker and ministers at a model Legislative Assembly session organised by Citizens for Bengaluru (CfB) and Bengaluru Bus Prayanikara Vedike (BBPV) on Saturday.

The event was held at  RBANM’s First Grade College auditorium, Halasuru. The “Assembly session” discussed problems relating to traffic, pollution, city infrastructure and parking with “MLAs” voicing their opinion.

Vinay Sreenivasa from BBPV, who played the role of Ejipura MLA, engaged in a debate with the “Bengaluru Development minister.” “When thousands of crores are spent on flyovers and ring roads which help private vehicles why is it that the government hesitates to support BMTC financially?” he wanted to know.

Public transport

After intense debate on solutions for traffic and pollution, members of the “Assembly” were convinced that they must try innovative experiments with public transport.

They agreed that while a multi-modal public transport is the top priority, suburban trains, the metro and buses take months or years to become operational. The organisers said that they wanted to present the ideal behaviour of MLAs and ministers.
