The residents of Thannirbavi, under the aegis of CPM and DYFI, staged a protest in front of the deputy commissioner’s office on Monday, urging the state government to provide title deeds and door numbers to their houses.

The protesters said that they have been living in fear without the title deeds and door numbers as the Port Department may demolish the houses at any time. “We had already staged a protest thrice in the past and had submitted memorandum to the Mangaluru City Corporation commissioner urging him to meet our demands.

But  neither the Mangaluru City Corporation nor the MLA and the district administration have responded to our demand. Instead, they are showing fingers at the Revenue Department and CRZ,” they said.

“As many as 300 families have been residing in the area for the past several years and we are deprived of house numbers and title deeds. Without the title deeds, we are also deprived of pension scheme, self-employment benefit, and loan schemes of the government,”  they poured their woes.
