Coorg, Namdhari dominate

Hockey Sub-junior Nationals : Gujarat thump Mumbai 5-1; Himachal win

 Hockey Coorg and Namdhari XI took another step to cementing their place in the semifinals with resounding wins in the 7th Hockey India Sub-junior National Championship (Division B) here at the Field Marshal KM Cariappa stadium on Thursday.

In the Pool B encounter, Namdhari XI continued their fine run with another huge win. This time, Hockey Puducherry was on the receiving as the boys from the Ludhiana academy slammed 15 goals with no reply.

Hanspal Singh was the star for the side, scoring seven goals (4th, 22nd, 29th, 35th, 44th, 45th, 59th minutes) in the game. Hardeep Singh netted in an hat-trick (41st, 49th, 58th minutes), while Princepal Singh and (34th, 69th minutes) and Jaskaran Singh (63rd, 65th minutes) scored a brace. Hockey Coorg too had a great outing, winning their Pool C game against Telengana Hockey 9-0.

In another Pool B tie, Sports Authority of Gujarat registered a  5-1 win over  Mumbai Hockey Association.
Nikhil Jambotkar (33rd, 52nd) and Sahil Katiyar (46th, 51st) scored a brace each while Sunny Thubre (34th) also added to the tally with one goal.

For Mumbai, Tauseef netted the only goal in the 4th minute.

Pool C: Bengal HA: 1 (Lorik Pal 15th) drew with Citizen XI: 1 (Zainul S 58th); Hockey Coorg: 9 (Tarun NT 23rd, 25th, 33rd, Ashik U 47th, 66th, 70th, Yaswanth KM 53rd, 59th, Rakshith Kariappa 62nd) bt Telengana Hockey: 0; Hockey Himachal: 5 (Pankaj 28th, 66th, 68th, Suraj Singh 24th, Charanjit Singh 51st) bt Vidarbha HA: 2 (Rehan Khan 54th, Shiv Borkar 62nd).
