Amid shortcomings, the Kadur Railway Station has been adjudged the best maintained station in terms of cleanliness, by South Western Railway (Mysuru Division).
A well-maintained garden in front of the station beckons passengers to visit it once. Cleanliness has been maintained within the station as well. Railway station master Shamananda Sagar has been looking after the station well.
Earlier, people bound to Dharmasthala, Udupi, Horanadu and other religious places in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi used to get down at Kadur railway station and continue their travel by bus. As the train now travels to Chikkamagaluru from the last two years, passengers have an advantage.
In the past, the trains from Birur moved to Talaguppa, Shivamogga and Davanagere. After the Kadur-Chikkamagaluru railway line was instituted, Kadur was upgraded to a junction. The 100-year-old station was bulldozed to construct the new railway station near the government bus stand. There is no crossing problem as there is double track from Arsikere to Birur.
Lack of facilities
A lot of problems have still been haunting the railway station.
There is no proper drinking water facility for passengers. It was only after the local Jain Samaj provided 500 litres of clean drinking water that the problem has been addressed to a certain extent. The Kadur station gets no drinking water supply from the Bhadra drinking water project by the Town Municipal Council. Even though the cost for the water connection was paid by the South Western Railway a year ago, no work has been taken up in this direction.
No ramp
The senior citizens and the children find it difficult to climb the steps leading to the station. The ramp system has not been effective. The passengers feel that it would be helpful for the elderly if the station runs electric vehicles to ferry them. Better security system is needed during the night. Another ticket counter has also been found needed in the station.
