Faulty work by the Public Works Department (PWD) which had been entrusted with desilting the wetland at Lalbagh Botanical Gardens has resulted in a damaged manhole which the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has been trying to fix for two days.

BWSSB workers have been working round the clock to fix the damaged manhole at Lalbagh south gate near Ashok Pillar. According to BWSSB officials, the PWD was told to drain and desilt the wetland.

“The department removed the silt and dumped it into the nearby manhole. Now, there is waterlogging around the manhole. We are trying to sort the issue at the earliest,” said executive engineer for waste water management (Koramangala and Challaghatta Valley) Paramesh K N.

According to BWSSB, desilting of the wetland began a week ago. The water board is hopeful of solving the problem by Wednesday.
