The Andhra Pradesh government will soon appoint ace shuttler P V Sindhu as a deputy collector in recognition of her performance at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The state government made necessary amendments to the Public Services Commission Act at a special session in Amaravati called for passing the GST Bill. Sindhu will get her appointment order after Governor E S L Narasimhan gives his nod to the amendments.

The state government also gave her Rs 3 crore and a 1,000 square-yard residential plot in the new capital after she won a silver medal for the country. At present, Sindhu is working as a deputy manager in Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited here.

The 22-year-old lives in Hyderabad and attends training at the Pullela Gopichand Academy. “Sindhu showed extraordinary grit at the Olympics. The state government is trying to honour her by offering her the post of a deputy collector,” Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said.

The Andhra Pradesh government also offered Gopichand 10 acres in Amaravati to set up a Badminton Academy. Sindhu’s mother Vijaya said her daughter will take up the job offered by the AP government. Sindhu chose AP over Telangana though Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao offered her a similar job. A fortnight ago, Rao handed over a 1,000 square-yard plot in the upmarket Shaikpet area in Hyderabad.
