Two days after CBI conducted searches at his premises, former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram's son  Karti Chidambaram on Thursday left for London.

Airport official sources said "He (Karti Chidambaram) boarded a flight to London with his aides". However the official did not elaborate his (Karti Chiambaram's) plan to foreign trip.

CBI on Tuesday conducted raids at the residences of senior Congress leader and former Union Finance Minister and his son Karti Chidambaram with regard to alleged favours granted in Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) approval to a private firm during the previous Congress-led UPA regime.

The investigation agency had recently registered a case with regard to FIPB clearance given to a company in which it is alleged that favours were given when Chidambaram was the Union Finance Minister under the Congress government at the Centre.

"It is politically motivated... I do not understand why they are conducting raids. I have not committed in any wrong doings", Karti Chidambaram, who was present in the house during the searches, said.

Reacting to the raids, former union minister Chidambaram said the Central government was trying to silence his voice and stop him from writing.
