Raghuveer S Gowda and Mahesh Kumar N K have been elected president of Bengaluru City Youth Congress and Bengaluru Urban District Youth Congress committees respectively.

Raghuveer, backed by the outgoing state Youth Congress president Rizwan, is said to have secured 3,800 votes, defeating his nearest rival Rakshit Shivaram, the son of retired police officer B K Shivaram.

Interestingly, the 30-yeard-old Raghuveer has no political background as such. He has a BBM degree and is an alumni of MES College, Malleswaram. His family owns Sampada Builders and Developers company.

Rizwan said, “Raghuveer is a new entrant to politics. He has been active in the Youth Congress for the last couple of years. Rahul Gandhi wants the common man to get into politics. So, Raghuveer was encouraged to contest.”

Rakshit Shivaram, who also happens to be the nephew of senior Congress leader B K Hariprasad, and Sowmya Reddy, the daughter of Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, are now vice presidents of the City Youth Congress. Sowmya is said to have got 1,765 votes.

Active members of the Youth Congress from the 18 Assembly segments in Bengauru had the voting rights. The term of office is three years.

Mahesh Kumar, who contested for the seat which was reserved for the SC/ST, has been in politics for the last one decade. He is now president of Doddajala Gram Panchayat. He is learnt to have secured 3,578 votes, while his nearest rival Praveen is said to have got 2,093 votes and Raksha Ramaiah, son of Minister M R Seetharam, is said to have got 1,247 votes. Now, Praveen and Raksha are vice presidents of the Urban District Youth Congress.

Rizwan said the presidents for all the 30 district Youth Congress units have been elected and the results have been uploaded on the website of the Youth Congress. The counting of votes was completed on Friday morning.
However, the party has neither officially announced the results nor has it uploaded them on its website.

Results of elections to state youth Congress office-bearers, including the president, are scheduled to be announced on Saturday.
