Water project for villages added to BBMP to start in July

Last Updated 07 June 2017, 20:56 IST

BWSSB’s water supply project in Dasarahalli, Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Bommanahalli, Mahadevapura and Yelahanka zones of the BBMP is all set to start in the first week of July.

Kemparamaiah, engineer-in-chief, BWSSB, told DH on Wednesday that tenders for laying pipes have been awarded to five firms — L&T, Indian Engineering, SMC Infrastructure, IHP and Lakshmi Civil Engineering. These firms have been given specifications of the material and the action plan.

BWSSB estimates that about 3,000 km of pipelines would be laid in the 110 villages added to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) about 11 years ago. At present, the survey for laying the pipes is under way.

Kemparamaiah said, “The project will take 24 months to complete.” BWSSB had been reluctant to take up the water supply and sewerage work in the newly added areas of the BBMP. It restricted its operations in the core areas of BBMP comprising East, West and South Zones for want of funds. Following allocation of funds worth Rs 1,800 crore, BWSSB agreed to take up the work.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah formally launched the project on April 20.
