Make-up should make you feel happy,” declares Sonic Sarwate, global senior artist, MAC Cosmetics, as he demonstrated the latest trends of the season in a recent make-up demo session in Bengaluru. Sonic vouches for make-up that is real, and has maximum impact without being over-the-top. Here, he shares some easy-to-follow make-up tips and the season’s trends.

A beginner’s guide

Never follow anyone blindly. Instead, explore what you like, as everybody has a different style. Make-up is subjective, and there is no right or wrong kind. So, you can wear as much make-up as you want. If you are not sure about where to start, look for styles that you can relate to. Once you know what you want, figure out how you want to achieve that look.

Avoid mistakes

Wearing make-up that makes you feel uncomfortable is a big no-no. It is important to choose your look based on your personality. Often, I see people matching their make-up with their outfits. You don’t have to do that.

A fine balance

Keep your make-up, hair and outfit in perfect harmony to ensure that nothing is too overpowering. If your outfit is a little sedate, you can amp it up with a bold look. If your dress has an oomph factor, you can keep your make-up minimal. It is important to strike the right balance.

Removing your make-up

Firstly, take off your make-up every single night. Many of us feel lazy and tired at the end of the day. There are many options that are available in the market like the make-up remover wipes, which are good for full face make-up. But for your eyes, you definitely need to use eye make-up remover. The best way to wipe off eye make-up is by dipping a cotton pad into a make-up remover, and placing it on the eye for a few seconds. Once the make-up starts dissolving, you can gently wipe it off. This way, the make-up will come off easily, and you don’t have to rub your eyes vigorously.

Waterproof products

As the humidity levels go up during monsoon, it is essential to wear make-up that lasts. Go for a look with more moisture, which is currently trending everywhere. You will need touch-ups a few times during the day because of the humidity. You can even go for a minimalistic look to make touch-ups easier. It is important to invest in the right products, as your skin can sometimes become oily during monsoons. Use waterproof kohl or eyeliner to avoid smudges around your eyes.

The must-haves

A few essentials that you must have in your kit include a long-lasting foundation, good waterproof mascara and eye pencil, and liquid matte lipsticks. Or you could also use a gloss, which will not wear off with moisture. It is also important to use good skincare products. A good cleanser and moisturiser will help your skin look peachy. If you like experimenting, you can buy a blush and eye shadow. Keep a variety of lipsticks handy to look fabulous even without wearing too much make-up.
Skincare regime

It is important to use a good cleanser depending on your skin type. A wrong one might absorb all the moisture from your skin and make it look dry. Also use a good moisturiser. If you have a daytime moisturiser with an SPF factor in it, you may not need a sun block. However, if you do go out in the sun often, wear a sun block. And don’t neglect your lips, so use either a lip conditioner or a lip balm.
