A twist in the tale
A musical adaptation called ‘Oliver With a Twist’ will be presented by the William Joseph Academy in celebration of its 15th anniversary on July 1 and 2, 6.30 pm at the Guru Nanak Bhavan.
The story is an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ ‘Oliver Twist’ written in the style of a Broadway musical by Jollen Bland.
The Bangalore edition of the musical is produced and directed by musician and composer Dr Ashley Williams. Williams is the founder and director of the William Joseph International Academy for Performing Arts as well as the founder, director and conductor of the Indian National Symphony Orchestra.
Ashley Williams has worked with hundreds of schools and professional musicians for over the last 40 years. His much talked about plays are ‘Jungle Book I & II’, ‘Fiddler on the Roof’, ‘Cinderella’, ‘Sound of Music’, ‘Wizard of Oz’, ‘Snow White’, ‘Oliver Twist’ and others.
Till date, he takes pride in his passion for music and his everlasting relationships with his former musicians and cast. It was under the able baton of Ashley William that the Indian National Symphony Orchestra was launched.
These musicians have been handpicked and trained under him. His main objective here was to nurture home grown talents. Ashley wanted to bring back ‘Oliver’ after 26 years but this time ‘with a Twist’.
The hand picked cast features veteran theatre personality Gavin Cordiero as Fagin. Both the days will feature two separate lead roles, Oliver played by Noel Prabhu and Prarthana, Dodger played by Elijah and
Aparna, Nancy played by Jennie and Dia and Bill Sykes by Aldrine.
This promises to be a family entertainer with beautiful music scores arranged by Dr Ashley by his very own talented students forming his mini-chamber orchestra. The donor passes and tickets available for Rs 1,000 and Rs 500. There is free seating.
