Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths raided the premises of an engineer and found assets estimated at a whopping Rs 800 crore.

The search operations, which began on Friday and continued till Saturday, were conducted in several places across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana as Pamu Panduranga Rao, engineer-in-chief of the Public Health and Municipal Engineering Department,  refused to divulge information to the ACB sleuths of the Central Investigation Unit.

He was arrested in a disproportionate assets case and was produced before the special judge for ACB cases in Vijayawada on Saturday and remanded in judicial remand. The ACB told the state government that the officer be placed under suspension.

The team was shocked over the quantum of wealth they had unearthed, which included gold, silver and other valuable metals, properties in several districts, a hospital under construction and investments in numerous companies.

Rao, who draws a salary of Rs 45,000 per month, had purchased over 40 tangible assets worth hundreds of crores in his and his relatives’ names, starting from 1993 at the rate of one property every six months.
