Sira taluk in Tumakuru district has been earning the distinction of being an educational hub. Apart from focussing on the overall development, efforts are being made to ensure that children get the best education in the taluk, said Minister T B Jayachandra.

He was speaking after inaugurating the felicitation ceremony, distribution of prizes to the winners of various sports events and Pratibha Puraskar programme, at Someshwara Kalyana Mantapa in the town on Saturday. The programme was organised by the Sira branch of the Karnataka State Government Employees’ Association.

There is a good demand for admissions at the Morarji Desai Schools in the taluk. Development in the true sense can be possible only through good education, the minister said.

“Girls have always had an upper hand in the results to the various competitive examinations. They have bagged the maximum ranks and top slots and have set an example for the others to follow. Nandini from Kolar has made our state proud after topping the IAS exams. Such success stories should inspire all students to make a mark,” Jayachandra said.

The Government Employees’ Association has been doing a commendable job of identifying talented students and honouring them. This will inspire such students to aim higher in life, he said.

Replying to her felicitation, Priyanka, who has secured 84th rank in the IAS exams, explained that there were shortcuts for success. Constant and dedicated efforts were sure mantra for success. Instead of focussing on the quantity of time devoted for the studies, it is important to know the quality time spent on studies. One has to also read newspapers and magazines everyday to expand knowledge, she added.

Former district president of the Government Employees’ Association B M Sannamuddaiah and agricultural assistant director Dr N Nagaraju, who has been presented with the “District Sarvottama award,” were felicitated at the programme.

Priyanka and R Anjana, who has bagged the 34th place in the CET, were felicitated. Students who have secured above 90 per cent in the SSLC examinations and students who have secured above 85 per cent in the Pre-University examinations were honoured with the Pratibha Puraskara.
