 The government Wednesday issued a notification making linking of permanent account number (PAN) with Aadhaar mandatory for from July 1. The decision is for those who have PAN and Aadhaar both.

For those who do not have PAN card will need to first get Aadhaar card made as the no PAN card will issued without Aadhar after July 1.

Those who only have PAN card and no Aadhaar have been given time till December 31 to get their Aadhaar card made.

The notification amended the Income-tax Rules of 1962 saying those allotted PAN as on July 1, 2017 and have an aadhaar number should get the two linked.

A new column for quoting of Aadhaar number has been provided for in Form 49A which is used for applying for PAN.

Quoting of PAN, and Aadhaar are now mandatory for opening of bank accounts and cash transactions beyond a threshold.

The step has been take to check tax evasion.
