Motorists on the busy Nrupathunga Road had a narrow escape when a BMTC bus driver lost control over the vehicle due to brake failure on Wednesday morning.

The bus heading towards Shantinagar depot from Majestic hit the tree on the roadside before it came to a halt, the police said.

Fortunately, no one was injured as the bus was empty. It was going to the depot for repair after it broke down on the middle of Sheshadri Road.

The driver, sensing that brakes had failed, raised an alarm by honking to alert the motorists in front of the bus, before hitting a roadside tree. The tree is close to the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) court.

The incident occurred around 11 am. The Halasuru Gate traffic police, who were regulating traffic at the signal, rushed to the spot and towed away the bus. Traffic movement was disrupted for a while, the police said.
