Spurned lover pays supari to threaten, stab woman

Pramod paid Rs 1.1 lakh to carry out the attack

 A spurned lover paid supari to intimidate a woman whom he wanted to marry and got her stabbed on her back three times for rejecting his advances, in Cottonpet last week.

The 27-year-old victim, working for a private airline in Banaswadi, had lodged a complaint with the Cottonpet police soon after the incident.

The police have arrested three men identified as Pramod (32), a resident of Bommanahalli, who runs a clothing business, Kumar (27), and Suresh (35), both residents of Bangi Colony in Cottonpet, in this connection. A special team has been formed to nab the unidentified assailant who is on the run.

According to police, the incident happened on June 21 around 9.30 pm, when the woman, after work, returned home on Police Road in Cottonpet and was parking her bike.

She noticed an unidentified person lurking suspiciously near her house and asked him who he was. The man suddenly attacked her with a knife without any provocation. He stabbed her lower back three times and caused severe injuries. The woman shouted and raised an alarm, but by then the assailant fled the spot. She was then shifted to a nearby hospital from where was discharged after treatment.

During investigations, the police picked up Pramod, Kumar and Suresh based on the call record details and other evidence and clues.

Pramod claimed that he was in a relationship with the woman for the past eight years. About a year ago, their relationship soured and they had parted ways. Pramod paid his associate Kumar to harass her. Kumar used to call the woman on her phone and abuse her. He also used to send obscene messages to her.

Around two days prior to the incident, Pramod paid Rs 1.1 lakh to Kumar and told him to physically threaten and intimidate the woman. Kumar, in turn, paid Rs. 50,000 to another person who is presently absconding and told him to threaten and intimidate the woman.
This man confronted the woman and stabbed her, the police said. Investigations revealed that Kumar and Suresh assisted the assailant to commit the offence. Further investigation is on.
