Elderly French woman raped in Varanasi

An elderly French woman, who was associated with a voluntary organisation, was allegedly raped by a guard in Varanasi.

According to the police sources here, the 70-year old French national, who worked as a volunteer with an NGO and taught disabled children, lived at a resort near Shoolantkeshar area in the city.

Police said that on Wednesday night her guard identified as Om Prakash, barged into her room in an inebriated state and raped her after assaulting her. The septuagenarian lady suffered injuries on her head and was admitted to the hospital.
The matter came to light on Thursday morning when the old lady informed other members of the NGO about the incident. Police sources said that a medical examination of the victim has confirmed rape.

The guard, who had been deployed for her security by the organisation about four month back, is absconding, the police said.

A case was registered at Rohaniya police station and a hunt had been launched to nab the culprit, police added.
