TCS 10K run raises Rs 7.55 Cr for charity

 The Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) World 10K 2017 has raised a record Rs 7.55 crores for charity with an aim to raise Rs 10 crore next year.

"A record Rs 7.55 crore has been contributed this year, 25 per cent more than last year," India Cares Foundation Chairperson Murray Culshaw told reporters here.
"We are aiming to raise at least 10 crores next year," TCS (Bangalore Operations) Vice President and Head Nagraj Ijari added.

With over 23,000 people running this edition, 91 Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) benefited from funds, Culshaw said.

A total of Rs 1,70,54,210 was collectively raised by the top three CSOs Isha Vidya belonging to the Association of People with Disability and Vidya Sagar, he said.

In the Care Champions category, MM Nikhilesh, NM Nagashree and MM Vignesh raised over Rs 8,00,000 each for Kalisu Foundation working with government schools in Mysuru, Culshaw said.

Amongst the top corporate contributors, First American and KPMG, collectively contributed Rs 29,05,000, he said.

Also, employees of TE Connectivity raised Rs 15,59,663 with the Corporate Cares category raising a total amount of Rs 1,31,22,063, Culshaw said. The youngest fund raisers in Youth Cares category saw CherYsh Trust represented by Ethan Martin, Abhinav Senthil and Yash Chandrashekar raising Rs 1,46,000, he said.

Most notably, 11-year-old Maya D’Souza of Vidyashilp Academy took home the Youngest Care Champion award for pledging 2.24 lakh towards Reaching Hand, an orphanage in the city, Culshaw said.

"My parents inspired me the most and encouraged me to run (the 10k). I wanted to help the orphanage, which I have visited since I was five and where I have made many friends," Maya said.
