The Bangalore Traffic Police’s ‘Public Eye’ app for reporting traffic violations and KSTDC’s app for booking travel tickets to tourist destinations received awards in two different categories at the Global Mobile Apps Summit and Award (GMASA).

While ‘Traffic Eye’ won the people’s choice award, KSTDC’s ‘Karnataka Holidays’ was recognised as the best emerging popular app. The two-day global event that concluded on Friday saw apps being awarded in 24 different categories.

Additional Traffic Commissioner R Hithendra, who received the award for ‘Public Eye,’ noted that changes can be made when civic agencies join hands with the government. He cited the example of ‘Public Eye’ app, which was developed by the Police department with the help of Janaagraha.

“More than a lakh people have downloaded the app and registered over 75,000 complaints. The department has taken action against 55,000 of traffic offenders,” Hithendra said. GMASA chairman C R Venkatesh said that ‘Public Eye’ was chosen for the top honour as it is the first such experiment which allows the citizens to participate in an exercise to build a positive environment. “It’s a major milestone in mobile apps technology,” he added.

More than 100 app developers, technologists, top executives and marketers from 16 countries, took part in the summit.
