Babymoons are on a rise these days, as women are confident and healthy during pregnancy, and don’t want to cancel their holiday plans. The best time to travel during pregnancy is during the second trimester.

Women with low-risk pregnancies can travel. However, there are some complications attached to any kind of pregnancy, especially for women who are diagnosed with comorbidity. A proper risk assessment guide by your gynaecologist will help you travel safe.

Some expectant mothers prefer road travel, as they find it convenient to make several stops whenever they are uncomfortable. But travelling by road can cause physical discomfort. Travelling by trains is a better option, as it allows you to walk and also lie down when you are not feeling well. The other most obvious option is air travel, especially for long distance journeys. You need to take some precautionary measures to ensure that you can have a safe and happy flight.

Listed below are a few tips to ensure a safe travel during pregnancy:

Always carry a copy of your prenatal chart and a “fit to fly” approval letter from your doctor, clearing you to travel.

Keep some prescribed medicines for nausea and travel diarrhoea handy.

If you are travelling by air, preferably book an aisle seat. You can stretch your legs at regular intervals and also walk up and down the aisle to make sure your blood circulation is fine.

Wear loose-fitting clothes and comfortable shoes.

It is always advisable to relax during pregnancy holidays, and avoid sight-seeing, adventure activities and shopping.

Go for a travel insurance, just to be prepared in case of emergencies at any point of time.
