A total of 30 suspected dengue cases have been identified in Kadur taluk and there are possibilities of the number of cases going up further.

The health department meanwhile is taking measures to control the disease and is spreading awareness among people regarding the symptoms of dengue. People are also being told to take steps towards controlling breeding of mosquitoes.

Houses are being visited on a regular basis and steps taken to ensure that mosquitoes are eliminated at the larva stage itself. Two rounds have been conducted in Kadur and Birur. The health department staff are visiting houses every Thursday. Mosquito breeding spots have also been identified and the larvae destroyed. Details of dengue cases reported from private hospitals is also being collated. A meeting in this regard will be held soon.

The Health department has requested people to take precautionary measures against the spread of dengue. People are being advised to dispose-off domestic waste scientifically, keep unused tires clean and prevent water from getting accumulated in empty coconut shells. Advisories have been issued to ensure that waste should not be dumped in storm water drains as this will result in blockage and water stagnation which is favourable for breeding of mosquitoes.

District Health Officer Dr Prabhu said that fogging will only help in destroying adult and weak mosquitoes. Dengue cases have been reported from: Birur - 6, Kadur - 3, Hirenallur - 5, Rural areas - 15. Two malaria cases and three chikungunya cases have also been reported.
