Pleasing to the eye, delightful on the tastebuds and easy on the pocket — this is a match made in heaven when it comes to food and ‘Cafe Poetry’ on New Bel Road has got it down to a science.

With their eye on the ample student population in the area, this casual diner offers a variety of snacks and beverages that are lip-smackingly tasty but don’t burn a hole in your pocket.

“Being a student myself, I noticed that if I wanted to have some quality food in a good ambience, I would have to shell out a few hundreds easily,” says Suhail, the owner. “And most of these places would be in places like Koramangala, MG Road and so on.

I decided to set up a place in my area which would be something of a hangout spot for college kids where they can sit for an hour or two, order 5-6 dishes and yet not have to pay more than Rs 150-200 or so,” he adds.

The name comes from an idea to combine a love for poetry with a love for food. The place will see poetry events in the next few months where students can recite their creations or simply jot down their lines anonymously and display them there. Coming to the food, the menu is typical of a student-friendly place but each dish has been given an imaginative twist to keep the freshness alive. “We are adding more items to the menu and tweaking the existing ones,” says Suhail.

So if you are a fan of the classics, albeit in the junk category, opt from a wide variety of burgers, wraps, rolls, sandwiches and other bites. Special mention to their chicken nuggets and nugget burgers that have quite a loyal fan following.

The pastas, all in white sauce, are another delicious choice as well as the Maggi. There are enough options to please both the vegetarian and non-vegetarian foodie. The have something called an exclusive poet menu (how cool!) which has drinks made of ice cream and fruits. With names like ‘Abood’ (muskmelon and mango), ‘Tabakath’ (butterfruit, mango and papaya) and ‘Maharajan’ (pineapple, strawberry, mango and vanilla), the drinks are as exotic as they sound.

The beverages section goes on to include a plethora of flavoured sodas, mojitos, lassis and pulpy juices. The juices are freshly made and include a combination of fruits, the benefits of which have also been mentioned in the menu.

Next is the universal favourite -- the dessert section. Indulge shamelessly and opt from a variety of faloodas, ice creams, ice cream shakes, sundaes and more. If you are taking milkshakes or ice-creams, expect rainbow sprinkles on them! So if you are thinking of snacking out this weekend, you know where to head to. For details, call 8792767542.
