Graduates advised to match skill sets with appropriate field

One should not get into a job only because it gives a high pay scale. It is equally important to choose an interesting field which matches the skills and ability of the aspirant, Century Real Estate Holdings Pvt Ltd Managing Director Ravindra Pai said.

He was speaking after inaugurating a job fair organised by Mandamus Education Academy, Century Builders and Association of Mangalagangothri Commerce Alumni Association (AMCA) at Dr P Dayananda Pai and P Sathish Pai Government First Grade College in Car Street, Mangaluru on Friday.

He said that many young graduates who get into jobs are lured by attractive pay scales even though their mind is not into it. After a short period they end up leaving the company and joining another one. He advised students not to feel let down as their sincerity will pay off in the long run.  

Dr P Dayananda Pai and P Sathish Pai Government First Grade College, Car Street, Mangaluru Principal C Rajashekhar Hebbar said that it is the duty of colleges to make students job ready by inculcating necessary skills which are expected from them in the job market.

Youth Empowerment and Sports Department Deputy Director Pradeep D’Souza, who was the guest of honour, said that the state government has reserved Rs 280 crore this year for youth empowerment and sports department. The department has chalked out various programmes to impart skills among youth.  He suggested that private companies should encourage the sporting talents of its employees.

Collegiate Education Department Joint Director Udayashankar H, who was the chief guest, called upon students to polish their communication skills.  

College Placement Cell Coordinator Prof Geetha M L said that 910 students registered at the job fair. 97 students were selected and 62 have been shortlisted. 31 companies took part in the fair.

Parent Teachers Association president Panduranga P and Mangalore Education Academy regional head Ravindra S Nayak were present among others.
