Elevated expressway to be shut during night for repairs

 The Hosur Road Elevated Expressway will be closed for a month between 12.30 am and 6 am for servicing of the expansion joints.

According to a spokesperson of the Bangalore Elevated Tollway Project, “This was a routine servicing of the expansion joints. As many as 40 joints required servicing since they had been damaged over a period of time.”

The servicing of the joints was necessary since gaps had been formed at the expansion joints due to exposure to weather. The rubber between the blocks acts as a cushion for the expansion and the contraction of asphalt. The work is expected to be completed in a month’s time.

“There were reports of people falling off their vehicles when the wheels got stuck in the expansion joints. The servicing of the road is being undertaken to reduce this,” the spokesperson said.  The traffic inspector of the Electronics City police station said only one side of the flyover will be closed during the repair work at night, while the other side will be left open for traffic. It will not hinder vehicle movement as very few vehicles travel during the night on the flyover.
