Backward Classes Dept hostel working fine: Lokayukta

Lokayukta Justice K Vishwanath Shetty said that he was satisfied with the facilities provided to students at hostels run by Backward Classes Department.

The Lokayukta paid a surprise visit to Bannanje pre-matriculation girls’ hostel, Arooru Morarji Desai Residential School, Bannanje Ashrama School, post-matriculation girls’ hostel at Bannanje, pre-matriculation girls’ hostel at Brahmavar.

Justice Shetty inspected cleanliness, food and other basic facilities. Looking at the vacant land by the Brahmavar hostel, he directed officials to make arrangement for a kitchen garden to grow flower-bearing plants. Sports like tennis, basketball should be encouraged among students. The hostel inmates should also be provided with training in computer, he said.

Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis, Udupi Tahsildar Maheshchandra, Backward Classes Department district officer Harish Gaonkar and Social Welfare Department Deputy Director Ramesh were present.
