Autorickshaw drivers told to follow traffic rules

Autorickshaw drivers must follow traffic rules from the point of safety, Regional Transport Authority Inspecting Officer C P Anil Kumar said.

During the annual general meeting of autorickshaw owners and drivers association in Hotel Samudra Auditorium in Madikeri on Tuesday, he said the safety of drivers as well as pedestrians is paramount but most of the drivers are neglecting safety. One has to maintain the recommended speed limit and also follow the dress code and parking rules.

“There are complaints against drivers who play loud music in autorickshaws and those who drink and drive. Such acts will attract strict penalty,” he warned.

Association District committee president D H Medappa said that the drivers must be in possession of the insurance papers and other documents while driving. Penalty by RTO should be paid without fail, he said.

Students who scored high marks in PUC were felicitated on the occasion. Association president A Arun Kumar, general secretary Barana Dinu and treasurer P V Anand Kumar were present.
