BJP to up the ante in Bihar

Last Updated 25 July 2017, 19:15 IST

The Bharatiya Janata Party threatened to paralyse the functioning of the Bihar Assembly in the ensuing Monsoon session — slated to start from July 28 — if Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav does not resign by July 27.

“Either Tejashwi quits before the Monsoon session begins or the BJP won’t allow the House to run smoothly,” said senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi.

Tejashwi, who has been in the limelight since the CBI named him an accused in the land-for-hotels scam, has so far shown no sign of quitting.

“We will wait until July 26 when Nitish Kumar has convened a Cabinet meeting in Patna. And if Tejashwi does not resign by July 27 or is sacked by Nitish (who swears of showing zero tolerance towards corruption), then the BJP won’t allow the House to run from July 28,” Modi said.

“The ball is now in the court of the top leadership. Whatever comment has to be made, it will be made by the party’s top brass,” said JD(U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar.
