The department of health and family welfare said that conventional treatment for dengue should not be abandoned while using home remedies.

Principal Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department Shalini Rajaneesh had circulated a WhatsApp message which stated that papaya leaf juice, onion, a combination of Palm and jaggery can prevent dengue. Deputy director of AYUSH V P Satish, however, in a statement on Tuesday said these remedies are not particular to dengue but general medicines which can also help control diabetes, sustain immunity among others.

“If we state these medicines are remedies for dengue, it will be wrong,” said Dr Satish. He added that wrong claims were circulated on Facebook and other social media sites. The health department said that there are 1,400 AYUSH doctors across the state who can help people with information on preventive measures and treatment for dengue.
