The protest by Kasturi Kannada Janapara Vedike against release of water to Tamil Nadu entered its 20th day on Wednesday.

The vedike is demanding that water be diverted to canals. The efforts made by officials to convince them to end the protest turned futile.

Assistant Commissioner Rajesh, Tahsildar S Harsha, arrived at the protest site on Wednesday morning and appealed to the members to also withdraw the mega protest planned on the lake premises on July 27. They tried to pacify them by assuring that discussions will be held with higher officials and measures will be taken to release water to canals soon. The protesters however, did not heed to their request and were adamant that they would end the protest immediately after releasing water to canals.

As part of Kargil Vijay Diwas, the protesters felicitated ex-servicemen Srinivas, Sathish and Kumar on the occasion.
