End to nursing college row soon: Sharan Prakash Patil

The state government on Wednesday said that it will soon end the confusion on the controversy over recognition of nursing colleges by holding talks with the Indian Nursing Council (INC).

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with department officials, Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil said he will soon speak to INC chairman and take a decision keeping in mind that no nursing students in the country will face problems while working abroad.

Referring to the Karnataka High Court upholding that INC has no powers to grant recognition, he said a copy of the court order was released on Wednesday. The government will examine the order in detail and the issue will be resolved, he added.

Patil said that INC chairman T Dilip Kumar has assured cooperation in clearing the confusion among students.

In December 2016, the medical education department had issued an order saying that the nursing colleges in the state need not take an approval from INC to conduct nursing
courses.

However, on March 17, INC had sent a circular stating every nursing college in the country should get a recognition from INC. Anyone running institutions without their approval would be derecognised, the circular stated.

However, the state government claims that nursing colleges need not get a recognition from INC as the latter does not have the authority to give recognition. It also says that the nursing colleges get recognition from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and the nursing colleges under the government get recognition from Karnataka State Nursing Council.
