Lecturers transferred without considering subjects; find no work

With the blunder committed by the department of Collegiate Education, science lecturers have been transferred to a college where there is no science department in Chikkamagaluru.

The science section in Government Women First Grade College is yet to be started. However, the department has transferred physics and chemistry lecturers to the college.

S V Nagaraj, associate professor of physics at Koppa Government First Grade College, was transferred to Government Women First Grade College in Chikkamagaluru. He reported for duty on June 24. As there is no science section in the college, he has no work in the college. Hassan Government First Grade College Chemistry assistant professor Keshav too has been transferred to Government Women First Grade College. He is yet to report for duty.

“Lecturers who were working in a college for long duration were transferred during the academic year. The lecturers were transferred as per the sanctioned posts without considering the course list in the colleges,” a lecturer told DH.

Principal in-charge of the college K Damodar Gowda said, “The college was started during 2014-15 and offers BA and BCom courses. Owing to lack of basic facilities, BSc was not started in the college inspite of getting approval for the same. Of the 15 sanctioned lecturer posts, 12 are vacant. Arts section has three permanent teachers (political science, sociology and economics) while commerce section and languages do not have permanent teachers. Along with shortage of teaching staff, the college does not have a building of its own. Had the department transferred arts, commerce and language teachers, it would have benefited the students. The science section is yet to be started in the college. There is no workload for the lecturers who have come here.”  

A third-year BCom student said, “We have only guest faculty to teach the subjects. We find it difficult in clearing the doubts in the subject. The academic year has commenced one-and-a half-months ago. Unfortunately, guest lecturers are yet to be recruited.”

On the confusion over transfer of lecturers to colleges that do not have science stream, Collegiate Education depatment regional joint director Narayanaswamy said, “A list of lecturers without workload would be sent to the higher authorities. The commissioner will transfer them to the colleges where there is workload.”
