Newborn girl's body found in Halasuru lake

A newborn baby girl’s body was found floating in Halasuru lake, central Bengaluru, on Saturday. An evening walker spotted the body and alerted others who called the police.

Police rushed to the spot and took the body to Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital for post-mortem. The baby is suspected to have been born prematurely, a senior police officer told DH.

The Halasuru police have registered a case under IPC 318 (concealment of birth by secret disposal of dead body). “Only after the post-mortem report comes will we be able to ascertain if the baby was murdered,” another officer said. He said more IPC sections would be invoked depending on the post-mortem report. Police are reviewing the CCTV footage to find out who dumped the body.
