Residents of areas near Cantonment Railway Station and members of various activist groups charted out a campaign to protest against the shifting of Cantonment Metro station to Madina Masjid grounds. Members of Citizens for Bengaluru (CfB), Praja and Citizens’ Action Forum held a brief meeting on Tuesday and decided to launch a multi-pronged campaign.

“We need to mobilise the masses as well as meet ministers and political leaders to stress the importance of setting up the Metro station next to the railway station,” said Rajkumar Dugar, a resident of Vasanthnagar, who has been vocal against the change in alignment of the Metro. Yogeesh Prabhuswamy of CfB said a social media campaign will be launched shortly and a memorandum would be submitted to the ministers, local MLA and to the chief minister. “We want Metro station next to the railway station here. This is not just a matter of convenience. It is the issue of integrating two key modes of transport,” said Khader Bhasha Syed of Praja.

N S Mukunda of Citizens’ Action Forum said public should be mobilised to stage a peaceful protest against the shifting of Metro station.
