Water logging leaves stench and dirt

Last Updated 16 August 2017, 20:42 IST

Heavy downpour in the wee hours of Tuesday left parts of Bengaluru with stench and dirt.

Madiwala, Koramangala and Eijipura are among the worst hit. Some apartments were struggling to pump out water from their basements.

“A lot of dirt came flowing into our parking lot. Cleaning it was difficult as it was in the basement,” said Kavitha, a resident of Madiwala.

Areas near BMTC bus depot in Koramangala saw severe water logging. BMTC drivers said there was around 10 feet of water on Tuesday which they tried pumping out. They were still left with around five feet of water which they managed to pump out.

A BMTC driver who did not wish to be named said there was stench after the water began to recede.

Many residents in Madiwala and Koramangala said they were struggling to clean the dirt that overflowed from drains into their houses.

Gayathri, a resident of Koramangala 4th Block said they had to call people from the neighbourhood to clear the clogged drains.

“There were pieces of plastic and food leftovers that came from the drains, but we managed to clean them,” she said.
