Woman, daughter jump into lake, end lives

A 27-year-old woman and her seven-year-old daughter reportedly committed suicide by jumping into the Kukkrahalli Lake in the city on Wednesday. The incident came to light on Thursday evening when a few strollers noticed the bodies floating in the lake.

The deceased have been identified as Spoorthy and her daughter Henani. According to the police, Spoorthy took the extreme step due to a family dispute. Police said that Spoorthy hails from Chikkamagaluru. A year ago, she married Anand, a resident of Mysuru, after her first husband died due to ill health.

Spoorthy left her house on Wednesday evening to bring back her daughter from school but did not return.

Anand then lodged a missing complaint with Kuvempu Nagar Police.

According to the police, Anand, who works as an agent for a drip irrigation firm with the Agriculture department, had planned a foreign trip on August 18.
Jayalakshmipuram Police are investigating the case.

Bus runs over student
A student was severely injured as a KSRTC city bus ran over her on Male Mahadeshwara Road in the city on Thursday.

The victim has been identified as Greeshma who fell while trying to alight the bus at a bus stop near Teresian College here. Greeshma sustained grievous injuries on her legs. Siddarattha Nagar Traffic Police have registered a case.
