Scores of BJP leaders on Thursday staged a snap protest outside town police station against sub-inspector K R Raghu for allegedly bashing four BJP Yuva Morcha workers of the party.

However, the issue was amicably solved, following the intervention of superintendent of police K Annamalai, forcing the agitating workers to call off the protest.

The BJP Yuva Morcha president Punyapala, general secretary Dhananjaya, workers Manjunath and Kiran had to face the wrath of the police for staging protest outside deputy commissioner’s office in the day.

They staged a protest demanding the ban of the Popular Front of India (PFI) following the arrest of its leader in the case of the murder of the RSS worker Sharath Madiwala in Mangaluru.

The PSI, however, had summoned them to station to admonish them for staging protest at the restricted area, as there has been a ban order in place restricting any protest demonstration within 200 metres’ radius of the deputy commissioner’s office.

No sooner were the agitators summoned to the station than BJP workers led by MLAs C T Ravi and D N Jeevaraj and former Rajya Sabha member Ayanur Manjunath barged into the station premises and sat on protest.

Jeevaraj blamed the police for unleashing their fury on the Morcha workers who had to taste the wrath of men in khaki.

Following the regret expressed by the SP, it was decided to withdraw the protest.

SP Annamalai said, it is a lesson for both police and protesters. While the protesters have expressed their ignorance over ban order in place, the sentinels were duty bound to apprise them over the law.

BJP spokesperson Varasiddhi Venugopal, Zilla Panchayat vice president S N Ramaswamy
Shettygaddhe and other leaders took part in the protest.
