Guv sends back govt's nomination of KPSC members

Last Updated 21 August 2017, 21:34 IST

Governor Vajubhai Vala on Monday sent back to the government a list of four candidates recommended to be nominated as the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) members.

The Governor is learnt to have asked the government to obtain the approval of the state Cabinet before recommending the candidates for nomination. He has also sought certain clarifications on the members.

Last week, the government had recommended four names, including the chief minister’s personal medical adviser Dr Ravikumar, to the Governor for nomination. IAS officer Shadakshari Swamy, R Lakshminarayana and Srikanth are three other persons recommended by the government.

According to official sources, the government had also attested a copy of the 2013 Cabinet decision which had decided to leave the selection of names to the chief minister’s discretion.

The sources said that Vala has contended that it was not right on the part of the government to recommend names based on the 2013 decision, and that the list should be scrutinised by the Cabinet again.
