Ex-IAS officer's report on prison irregularities soon

Last Updated 23 August 2017, 19:13 IST
Retired IAS officer Vinay Kumar, who is enquiring into the irregularities at Bengaluru Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara, will submit his report soon.

“We have collected the statements of all the officials concerned. Wait for a few days. You will get to know when the report is submitted,” he told DH.

Enquiry committee
A source said the enquiry committee had reviewed the video footage provided by former DIGP (Prisons) D Roopa along with her report and subsequent statement.

The committee also recorded the statements of prison officials with regard to Roopa’s allegations.

A source in the Home Department said the former IAS officer had sought more time to finalise the report.

Roopa had claimed that AIADMK leader V K Sasikala, who is lodged in the prison, received preferential treatment from the jail authorities.

She raised several other violations of the prison manual. She also pointed the finger at her then boss, DGP (Prisons) H N Sathyanarayana Rao.
Transferred

On July 12, 2017, Roopa submitted a report to Rao. A few days later, the government transferred her and posted her as DIG (Road Safety and Traffic), while Rao was sent on compulsory leave.

On July 31, Sathyanarayana Rao was posted as the Director General of Police and Commandant General, Home Guards, and Director General, Fire and Emergency Services Department, for an hour before retiring the same day.
