54K cusecs of water released from Almatti dam

As much as 54,012 cusec of water was released from the four crest gates of Almatti reservoir from Friday as the inflow into the dam increased owing to heavy rain in Maharashtra.

The 519.60-meter reservoir has water up to 519.59 meter. The inflow into the dam stood at 56,879 cusec on Friday. “More water will be released in the coming days as the inflow goes up. People residing on river banks should be careful,” said Jagannatha Reddy, the chief engineer of the Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigam Limited. Though the dam filled in the first week of August, water was not released from it till now. Reddy said that 8 tmcft of water was being released to Telangana from Basavasagara dam in Narayanapura since Thursday.

River Bheema too is in spate since 65,000 cusec of water has been released into the river from Ujani dam in Maharashtra. Several villages on the river bank in Indi taluk face flood threat. Roads and bridges on the way to Solapur in Maharashtra have been submerged due to raisingwater level.
