The 12-member committee, formed by the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) to verify defective marks cards, has completed its verification of 50,000 marks cards and has submitted a report to the KSOU Registrar.

The process of verification of the marks cards was taken up following the City Crime Branch (CCB) police cracking a KSOU fake marks cards racket recently.

As many as 70,000 marks cards were cancelled following a technical error during printing by the Institute of Engineering Management (IEM), which had obtained the contract of printing the KSOU marks cards. The committee was verifying such defective marks cards to check if they were used as fake certificates.

According to the authorities, 95% of the marks cards were cancelled due to negligence of the staff of IEM. The marks cards were cancelled as they were not properly printed and the names, roll numbers, etc were wrongly mentioned on the certificates. According to sources, KSOU has incurred a loss of Rs 15 lakh.

CCB police arrested the IEM chief after the police learnt that the fake certificates were printed in the IEM press which is located on the second floor of the KSOU administrative block.
