After clearing all the legal hurdles to conduct its general council meeting, the unified ruling AIADMK in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday has removed jailed VK Sasikala and her nephew TTV Dhinakaran from all party posts.

A decision was taken in this regard at the AIADMK's crucial general and executive council meeting, chaired by chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, held at the Srivaari Kalyana Hall at sub-urban Vaanagaram.

More than ten resolutions were unanimously adopted in the meeting, which was attended by more than 2,000 general council members.

The resolution, which sacked Sasikala, also nullified the AIADMK general secretary post. In addition, the AIADMK meet invalidates the decisions taken by "ousted" leader Dhinakaran with regard to the appointment of party office bearers.

After giving full authority to party chief coordinator O Panneerselvam and deputy coordinator Edappadi K Palaniswami to appoint or remove any office bearer, the AIADMK  has decided that the party would no longer have the powerful post of general secretary, held by late chief minister J Jayalalithaa until her death.

Other resolutions including to retrieve AIADMK party two leaves poll symbol were adopted unanimously during the meeting.

During his speech, the chief minister Palaniswami said that no one could vanish AIADMK. "The High Court refusal to stall this meeting was a great success to us", he added.

Earlier in the morning, soon after the meeting started, all the AIADMK and general and executive council members paid respect to late Jayalalithaa and observed two minutes silence. However, the MLAs, who support "ousted" AIADMK leader Dhinakaran, did not attend the meeting.

Meanwhile, Dhinakaran claimed he only has the authority to convene both the general and executive council meeting. "This was an ordinary meeting, which will not yield any results", he added.

Claiming that he has several MLAs to support, Dhinakaran said: "I have already started working to remove Palaniswami's government".
