Thippayana Lake gets a new lease of life

The Thippayana Lake, near the Ring Road in Lalithadripura, here, got a new lease of life with the District Administration and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) taking up the rejuvenation with the funds from city-based Automotive Axles Limited (AAL), a joint venture of Kalyani Group and Meritor, under it’s corporate social responsibility initiative.

Deputy Commissioner D Randeep and Meritor chief executive officer and president Jay Craig dedicated the rejuvenated lake on Wednesday. AAL president and whole time director N Muthukumar, International president and CEO of Meritor Joe Plomin and MD and CEO of AAL and Meritor Thimmaiah Napanda were present.

The 9.5 acre lake had turned into a dumping yard. It had completely dried up and was totally polluted. But, now, the lake is filled with clean water and the groundwater table has been energised. The borewells in surrounding areas are recharged.

Addressing press person, Thimmaiah Napanda, said, “We have a heritage of community involvement and hence we believe that strategic corporate social responsibility can make a positive difference in the people’s lives. When the project was started, a few months ago, the lake was nearly dry, smothered by a deep layer of silt from polluted drainage water. Today, the lake is filled with clean water. We also have plans to install lights and provide seating for the convenience of the people living in the area".

Highlighting the CSR activities of the company, he said, recently eco-friendly restroom facilities atop the Chamundi Hill was constructed as part of the Swatch Bharat Mission. The building includes a rainwater harvesting system, solar power station, wastewater treatment plant and LED lighting, he added.
