Stray dogs maul boy in Guntur, people take video

A five year old boy who was playing on the street near his home was mauled by a pack of mongrels in Adivitakkelapadu on the outskirts of Guntur city on Thursday. The incident occurred when the boy was alone outside the Rajiv Griha Kalpa housing area.

According to eye witnesses, the pack of dogs viciously attacked the boy Prem Kumar and bit him on his hands, legs and stomach. While few bystanders chased away the dogs, many took snaps and videos on their mobile phones instead of helping the boy who battling for his life. The boy with his face down was writing in pain but none came forward to take to a nearby hospital. Meanwhile, the parents who were informed by the locals rushed the boy to the Guntur General Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries. Doctors said that death occurred due to excessive bleeding.

The Child Rights body, Balala Hakkula Sangham here demanded an exgratia of Rs 25 lakh for the kin of the boy and action on the Guntur Municipal Corporation. "We condemn the irresponsible attitude of the GMC which led to the death of the boy. We demand slapping of criminal cases against the municipal officers who failed in the eradication of stray dogs and providing street lights," Achyuta Rao, honorary president of Balala Hakkula Sangham said. He added that the municipal authorities must work to protect the humans and not the dogs.
