Last Updated 22 September 2017, 19:19 IST

Homegrown Tata Motors on Friday announced its entry into the growing compact SUV segment with the launch of Tata Nexon.

Targeted at the personal car buyers, the Nexon is the fourth product based on the ‘Impact Design’ philosophy, following the path of the Tiago, Hexa and Tigor. It brings together global and contemporary design with best-in-class technology and features. With an introductory price of Rs 5,94,299 for the petrol variant, and at Rs 6,94,447 for the diesel variant (all prices ex-showroom Bengaluru), the Tata Nexon will be on sale across 650 Tata Motors authorised sales outlets in India.

Launching the Nexon in Bengaluru, Tata Motors Head (Design) Pratap Bose said, “Compact SUVs are part of the fastest growing segment in the market. Of all the product segments in the passenger vehicles market in India, our products address about 60% segments. With the Nexon, we will have over 72% market coverage.”

The overall passenger vehicles space last year grew 9%, crossing three million in unit sales. Tata Motors claims to have grown 22%. Its latest products have also garnered impressive sales, with the Tiago having seen 75,000 unit sales (with 1.2 lakh bookings), Hexa seeing 10,000 unit sales, and the Tigor also looking at reviving the dipping compact sedan segment.

Tata Nexon is available in four variants -- XE, XM, XT, and XZ+ -- and will come in five colour options.
