A local court here issued an arrest warrant against Kannada actor Pooja Gandhi’s father Pavan Kumar Gandhi for cheating a consumer durables and home appliances chain store of Rs 8 lakh.

Gandhi had reportedly brought electronic items worth Rs 8 lakh from two stores of Adishwar at Jayanagar and Banashankari. He had issued a cheque for Rs 8 lakh.

However, the cheque bounced due to insufficient balance in Gandhi’s account, said police.

When the management of the store tried to contact him, his mobile phone was switched off. The staff went to his flat in Banashankari and found that he had vacated it and locked it.

Based on a complaint, the police registered a case and went to his flat three times to trace him, but in vain. Meanwhile, the management approached the 27th ACMM court regarding the cheque bounce case. Based on the petition, the court issued the arrest warrant.

The police suspect that Gandhi may have shifted to Mumbai.

When contacted, Pooja Gandhi told DH: “I am in no way connected with the incident. I, my sister and my mother have parted ways with  him. We are not in touch with him anymore.”

In January this year, a local court had issued a warrant against Pooja Gandhi in a cheque bounce case. She had taken Rs 4 crore from a financier after signing up for a movie. But the movie failed to take off.

The actor and her father had issued a cheque which bounced due to insufficient balance.
