Noting that last minute surge in litigations on medical admission causes anxiety to everyone concerned, the Supreme Court has decided to put deterrence over such cases.

The court has been flooded with litigations asking either to deny or grant permission to admit students to the MBBS course, prompting the bench of Justices S A Bobde and L N Rao to consider putting some deterrence on them to avoid a surge each year.

“All the counsel appearing for the parties agreed that it is high time some deterrent measures be laid down for colleges and state authorities from doing acts which generate such last minute litigation,” the bench said.

The apex court was dealing with petitions by private medical colleges whose permission to admit students had been turned down by the Centre.
