The High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday again directed the state government to consider the application of a petitioner for Rajyotsava Award.
Justice A S Bopanna was hearing a petition filed by B V Satyanarayana Rao, a Kannada poet and writer. The petitioner is a former engineer and has written and published over 96 books in Kannada and Sanskrit. The petitioner contended that the selection committee had overlooked his candidature for the award in 2015 in spite of him being eligible for the award.
He also cited the High Court’s 2014 order asking the authorities to consider his case.
The petitioner had claimed that there are no guidelines followed by the government for selecting the awardees and had previously requested the court to issue directions in this regard.
