The Tungabhadra reservoir is just 3.23 feet away from reaching its maximum level. This follows copious rain in the dam's catchment areas. This is the first time that the reservoir is nearing full capacity in the last couple of years.

The present water level in the dam is 1,629 feet against the maximum level of 1,633 feet. The inflow, which was 30,219 cusecs on Monday, came down to 13,738 cusecs on Tuesday. A total of 23.23 tmc ft flowed into the dam since October 1.

Farmers in the basin of the dam could not harvest a second crop in the last two years. There w as acute shortage of drinking water during summer. Farmers are hopeful that this year they can opt for a second crop if the present water level is maintained in the first  week of December.

The state's share in the Tungabhadra is 60%, while undivided Andhra Pradesh gets the rest. All canals of the reservoir are getting water since September 1. The canals will get water till January to benefit the farmers.
